Gavin McIntyre: Tacet Eye Core Workshop 2023-2024

This workshop was unlike anything I've ever participated in. From past experiences, I've left workshops feeling inspired, but have never felt like I took away tangible next steps or accountability to continue and improve upon the work I had already begun. I have felt so lost, directionless and scattered in my process the past couple of years, stuck on what's next for me. The amount of clarity and support I feel in moving forward is truly invaluable to me.

CORE WORKSHOP
LONGFORM PROJECT DEVELOPMENT:

Session I: Virtual, November 21-23, 2025
Session II: Virtual, October, 2026

Tacet Eye’s core mentorship-based model and workshop is our principal offering--suited for photographers exploring long-term projects and open to all levels. Structured as a community of practice, it consists of two immersive sessions along with individualized coaching meetings and check-ins in between. We cover practical steps for developing long form projects and building networks that support economic, communal, and mental well-being, as well as how to navigate challenging environments safely. Workshop participants will come away with new ideas, actionable strategies, mutual support, and a refreshed vision for their project development.

Long-term documentary work demands a high level of commitment, creativity, persistence, planning, and strategy. Our approach to community and skill-building centers on process, poetics and ethics, and combines non-traditional resources, using poetry, music, literature, film, trauma-informed care, and critical theory to inform how we craft visual narratives.

All skill levels are welcome, however, those wanting to pursue long-term projects and/or those interested in delving deeper into personal creative work are best suited for this workshop.

Tuition and scholarships: The core workshop is structured as a year-long community of practice; consisting of two immersive sessions with small group coaching and individualized check-ins scheduled in between. Each session is $985, for a total of $1970 for the year.

In an effort to make the workshop as accessible as possible, for every 8 workshop registrants we are able to offer a scholarship. We are also happy to write letters of support for those pursuing outside funding opportunities to attend the workshop.

ADDITIONAL WORKSHOP OFFERINGS
In addition to Tacet Eye’s core workshop model, we offer topic-based workshops, open conversations and gatherings.

UPCOMING:
To Bind Anew

In collaboration with Golden Kin

Hudson, NY
- Saturday, August 30, 2025 - 9am - 6pm ET

“What is no longer archived in the same way, is no longer lived in the same way.”

This hands-on workshop engages personal and communal archives as living spaces for reflection, recovery, connection, and creation through collage, photography and performance. Together, we will look at poetry, literature, art, and photography. We will restitch, paint, pick flowers, and tear things up. We will reimagine, reshare, release and hold on to our archives--re-engaging them not as static records, but as evolving tools for storytelling, memory work and restorative futures. Participants will have the option to also have their archival (re)creations digitized, and contribute to a collective archive of our shared experiences.

Deadline: Rolling until filled; capacity will be limited to maintain an intimate space. All skill levels/experiences welcome!

To sign up complete the registration form.

Chapel Hill, NC - Saturday, Oct 4, 2025 - 10 am - 3pm ET

To bind anew: this is an act of love.

This hands-on workshop invites participants to explore personal and institutional visual archives through working with participatory and post-custodial archival methodologies that center care, creativity, and collective healing. Using visual storytelling, sensory memory, and objects of personal significance—such as heirlooms, flowers, and memorabilia—we will investigate how archival materials can be reactivated as tools for reflection, storytelling, and reimagining.

Open for all skill levels and individuals wanting to engage with their professional, personal or familial photographic archives. Participants will have the option to also have their archival (re)creations digitized, and contribute to a collective archive of our shared experiences.

TESTIMONIALS

Olivia Fernandez: Workshop Alumni, 2020

It felt so refreshing to have a new vision on my work and constructive feedback. It came at a perfect time and I feel much more confident now to continue the work. I was surprised by the diversity of work presented and talent of everyone, unfolding throughout the workshop. This has been a great refresher of everything I’ve missed from being in a community and working with other students.

This was an opening to new ways of seeing work and approaching my project, more specifically tailored to long term work. A lot of what was said resonated with my own experience -where I felt I was navigating in the dark, so it was incredibly helpful to realize that this is the process and we are all going through the same hurdles .

The amount of clarity and support I feel in moving forward after these three days is truly invaluable to me. Thank you Sarah, Jenny and Brian for not only creating such an honest and safe space for us, but for also sharing with us your time, talent and energy.

Jinki Cambronero: Workshop Alumni, 2023

For years, I’ve felt stuck. Unable to funnel my experience, thinking and aspirations into meaningful action, without overwhelm. The workshop has given me the tools to break it down, go deeper, and bring it all together. To both simplify and expand.

Christine Kao, Workshop Alumni, 2024

I came in thinking I would magically gain clarity and find solutions to how I can approach my current project, and left feeling like I could embrace and ride along the unknown. It's a much, much more needed mindset to acquire, one that I didn't think I was capable of. The way everyone brings in such passion and deep connections for their projects and empathy to listen to each other's stories were just incredible, an environment I hadn't imagined existed.

Annika Beaulieu: Workshop Alumni, 2021

Do I show the hard stuff, or remain in a space of cultural celebration?  This whole class has really helped me articulate that struggle and help me frame a path forward - at times this felt a little bit like group therapy for photographers. I have rarely encountered so much personal attention and consideration from a workshop in the past.

Florence Middleton: Workshop Alumni, 2020

The workshop far exceeded my expectations. It was such a positive and open learning environment. The instructors and speakers were incredibly supportive and knowledgeable. I walked away feeling like I had a stronger vision for my work, ways I can make it better, and ways to move forward.

Zaydee Sanchez: Workshop Participant, 2024

We don't speak about this in other workshops. The spiritual connection to the work is left out often. Therefore, we lose the feeling of it. Here, it brought to life again, feeling, allowing yourself to feel without judgment.

Billy Hickey: Workshop Participant, 2024

This workshop was incredibly refreshing. It was a needed look past and through the lens of cameras into our hearts. Writing assignments that flowed into our process presentations were beautiful magic. Tacet Eye is an open and honest space for connections, creativity and personal voice to blossom.
